SPEEDVARK at The World’s End
The Underworld, The World''s End, NW1 0NE , [Venue Details]The World’s End in Camden is bringing back a lost rock tradition this Christmas: the ‘house band’.
The legendary pub — whose downstairs venue The Underworld has hosted acts such as Foo Fighters and Radiohead — has booked acclaimed rock outfit Speedvark for three nights of free shows from Thu 18 to Sat 20 December.
Speedvark will perform three sets a night at 6pm, 7pm and 8pm live at The World’s End, followed by DJ rock sets until close. Entry is free (14+ with an adult until 7pm; 18+ afterwards).
Described by Record Collector as “the ultimate party band”, Speedvark will deliver adventurous covers including Led Zeppelin’s 11-minute ‘In My Time of Dying’, plus hits by The Beatles, Deep Purple, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, The Everly Brothers and Van Halen, alongside their own originals such as the festive favourite ‘I Hate Your Mother’. Their cover of T. Rex’s ‘Children of the Revolution’ will also be reissued to coincide with the shows.
Promoter Jon Vyner said: “The ‘house band’ was a staple of early Rock & Roll but faded out as touring expanded. The World’s End is steeped in rock history, so we’re excited to revive the format. Speedvark will put on some great shows for both regulars and new fans. It’s free, festive and great fun.”
